We were all beginners once, too. All classes in the schedule that are marked with a

are perfect for beginners. Also, no partner is necessary. Just bring your enthusiasm and a smile.

Group Classes

Students can try different dances each week, or focus on one dance a month, depending on the classes selected. Our skilled instructors are friendly, supportive, and committed to providing a fun learning environment.

Group classes are a wonderful opportunity to meet other people who share your enthusiasm for dancing! Our instructors rotate students often, so students can practice with different partners.

A discount sometimes is offered in an evening for two classes that are taught by the same instructor. A party or guided practice in the same ballroom is free with the class. Check our monthly class schedule for details.

Getting Started

Scott Patterson’s American Style Sampler on Fridays covers three different dances each week and is followed by a supervised practice session. Scott rotates eight dances over several weeks to complete the sampler, then repeats the cycle.

On Tuesday evenings, Arthur Calandrelli teaches a beginner-level Social Dancing Series. He provides the basics of American Style by concentrating on two dances at a time, and progressing each week for a monthly series. Starting at the beginning of the month is recommended.

On Monday evenings, Diane Lowe also offers a monthly, beginner-level social dancing series, with a primary focus on club-style dancing.

Series Classes

Build a good foundation with series group classes in over 15 different American, International, and specialty dances week after week. Some series classes continue for 4 weeks, and some for 12 weeks or more. These generally require advance registration, but you can drop in with the instructor’s permission.

Drop-In Classes

No prior sign-up or attendance is required. Brush up on your dance steps and technique by attending many such classes that are taught at the beginner, intermediate and advanced levels.

Private Lessons

Private lessons are a vital part of the development of successful dancers. All of the Allegro group instructors offer individual instruction. Call the instructor directly or leave a message at the front desk. Scott Patterson (650) 738-9580 offers a “Get Acquainted Special” for new students.

Dance Parties

Weekend ballroom dance and party events are a great time to practice your dance steps and meet new friends. Some party events are preceded by a dance lesson, and some include dinner and performances by guest and Allegro dancers. Check the schedule for dates and times.
