Julian Ramil has been dancing the Argentine tango in San Francisco
since the community began establishing in the Bay Area in the early
1990’s. His background includes numerous years of studying several
dance genres:  ballet, jazz, modern, and social dances of other Latin
American countries. His most influential tango dancers  instructors
include: Gustavo Naveira, Pablo Veron, Nestor Ray, Susana Miller,
Mariela Franganillo and several others.  These various great teachers
from Buenos Aires who have their own unique way of dancing have
ultimately influenced Julian’s own style. The versatility of his
self-expression is one that can reflect the unique qualities of the
milonguero style, raw and understated, with a profound interpretation
of music, to a more modern version incorporating highly innovative
complex patterns with sensual and dynamic movements. He is also very
active in the tango community, hosting milongas and promoting tango
events and activities. He has been invited to perform and conduct
dance workshops in and outside the United States: Mexico, Germany,
Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong, the Philippine and Hawaiian Islands…..

In 2001 he started his formal music studies, and after a few years,
decided to focus on the bandoneon, the main instrument of Argentine
Tango. He was a member of the first San Francisco Tango Orchestra
directed by Roman Rosso and is currently second bandoneonist of Seth
Asarnow Y Su Sexteto Tipico, an experience that continues to brings
him an invaluable wealth of knowledge of a deeper essence of the art
of Argentine Tango.

As a tango dance instructor he has developed a teaching method that
emphasizes sensitivity to the partner, rhythm & phrase of the music
and the  biomechanics of leading and following the fundamental motions
--- the foundation of every style. This allows his students to be
versatile and open-minded to the variety of tango styles so that, in
the end, they too may develop their own mode of dancing. Several of
his students has  won competitions, become well respected
teachers/performers and become favorite social dancers at the
milongas. The philosophy of his teaching is to guide the students to
clearly see the fundamental motions within the complicated patterns of
the Argentine Tango, making their progress and the dance itself easy
and exciting.
